REMOTE CHINA

Film and photography by Stefan Laxness, 2016.

'Remote China’ is a psycho-geographic journey through China’s North-western borderlands. Geographically strategic, rich in resources and ethnically diverse, these regions have found themselves at fore-front of the Chinese Dream and Beijing's desire to harness its far flung provinces. Set against the backdrop of the countries vast deserts, the film drifts through a landscape of accumulation of physical object in which infrastructural connections and new oases of economy and industry are quickly populating  the desert.
